New Year. See Clear.
2020 has been THE YEAR where everyone under the sun, creates catchy vision statements and prophetic words around 20/20 vision, clarity, and revelation. I'm a fellow opportunist so I'm not knocking y'all too hard. I get it. Respect. God is still at work in them. As we enter into a new year, a new decade (ten years, yes, but the calendar didn't start with year 0 AD... food for thought), it makes sense for most of us to want a fresh start. And to some extent, I'm right there with you.
While I celebrated many joyful things of the people I love this year, personally, it was far from my favorite 365 days on planet earth. Let's just say, I don't exactly want to re-live most of it.
Here's where I find myself though. 2020 makes it “marketable” in Christian circles but don't many of us hope and wish for the same things every year: new vision, revelation, goals, dreams, opportunities? Don't we always say we're going to form this healthy habit and remove these toxic people? Our short attention spans entertain lofty goals and prophetic dreams for only a fraction of a moment... then what? I'm equally to blame for this behavior.
But for me, in the midst of a desert of pain and hurt, 2019 was a year of breakthrough in other areas of my life. You see, I experienced new places, took new risks, tried new things, executed new ideas, developed new friendships. I don't want to depart from that AT ALL.
Therefore, for 2020, I actually want to DOUBLE DOWN. I want to do all of the above more. I want to see double portion on what I've already invested in. I don't need new when I have clear vision of the old. If anything, I want to simplify my life so that I can do what I did in 2019 more effectively and with greater impact. I've learned things along the way and that will only stoke the fire of what's to come.
So... I don't mean to be cynical, but maybe this post might speak to you. Maybe you don't need a new word for 2020. Maybe you just need the obedience and discipline to see your “old” word through.
Let us simplify in 2020. Let us get back to the basics. Let God’s presence reveal what we need or need not do. Don’t over-complicate. Love you all. Blessings!
