World Adoption Day 2020
Today is incredibly meaningful for me. #WorldAdoptionDay is a day to lift up all voices in the adoption community, share our stories, reflect on our journeys, and connect with those touched by adoption.
I share about it often, but if you're new here, I was adopted when I was 6 months old from S. Korea into a loving Chicagoland home. To this day, I don't know who my biological parents are and I've yet to return back to the motherland. My life has been anything but cookie-cutter clean but without a shadow of a doubt, it's been a blessing.
You see, other adoptees and I celebrating today are fortunate to inherit one of the world’s greatest treasures: family. Loved, chosen, and accepted into comfort, encouragement, and protection. As a Christian, adoption is the very best personification of the Gospel. In family, there's complete physical and spiritual wholeness, restoration, and healing. That's my experience but not the case for everyone though.
In the US alone, there are over 400,000 children in the foster care system and nearly 100,000 of these children are waiting to be adopted. So here's the thing... I've been rather coy about it in the past. But as I was praying today, I felt an impression to be bold. If you've been considering or praying for a sign to adopt, let this be it! If you’re pro-life, it’s a no-brainer, right? May this be THE YEAR you begin the adoption process.
As you see all the bright kid's faces and Sharpie drawn-on hands, know that all adoption stories from all perspectives (adoptee, birth mother, and adoptive parent) are wonderfully unique. These families have a reason to smile! Now, it isn't always picture perfect. There’s labor pains in a different sense, tears, and challenges. But, there’s also unexplained joy, unexpectant hope, and indescribable wonder. This is such a brave and beautiful process, one that you'll never regret. These kids matter. Will you help rewrite their story?

Fun facts: I was born in 88. When my parents decided to adopt from Korea, they picked up these Seoul 1988 Olympic crew necks. Vintage! The last picture is actually when I became a naturalized US citizen. Merica!
